Hats Off to Hawaiian Dredging.

07/26/24 – UPDATE (correction), found:
— In April, 1962, I was 14 years old —i
“…. In April 1962, the Army Corps of Engineers completed the Lt John R Slattery Bridge, the two-lane bascule bridge connecting Sand Island to Oʻahu in Honolulu Harbor. (It originally was a draw bridge, originally designed to be raised and lowered to allow boat traffic to pass underneath.)…”

Story I heard as a child, think1950’s, my maternal grandfather, Katsuyoshi Sato, was working for Hawaiian Dredging, telling me a futuristic Flash Gordon story, a bridge to get across the water
to get to Sand Island, bridge would lift up at the center to allow boats to pass, then down to connect to let cars past, remember, 1950’s, I was a child, probably less than 10 years old, the bridge
fascinated me and the name HAWAIIAN DREDGING was forever etched in my mind.
Fast forward to 07/25/24, on my Pearl City Industrial Park property today, dug a hole in the ground
to access the OLD (shut off maybe 2 months ago, water flowing in the new pipes bypassing my property) Navy 42″ water pipeline to Pearl Harbor, cut out a section of the old pipe, indeed no water flowing, new pipeline working, now final steps that includes abandoning and filling the old pipe. 07/25/24 – Hole in the ground, section of pie cut and removed. Kudos Hawaiian Dredging.

Coming soon, fill the pipe.
